New Member Introduction

Hello sailors,
I am new member, I enjoyed to read this cruising forums. I own a sloop Spencer34 and sailing in the coast of BC Canada for 27 years (not in winter time). I have replaced the main sail and now the engine raw water pump is tarted to acting up. They said the water pump is the first thing to go before the good old engine. Is it true?

Hi JW,
Welcome to the site.
Hi Menado and welcome also.
And yes - the flexible structure of an impellor makes it usually a consumable item! If your's has lasted 27 yars without replacement - all I can say is WOW.
JOHN

Thanks swagman! I moved these posts to a new thread.

Welcome aboard menado and enjoy the site.

Don't be worried about pressing a wrong button now and then - we try to help out keeping things organized.

Could be the water pump - There are lot's of engine guys in the "Propulsion Systems" section of the forum - you might try to post there and ask any engine specific questions you may have - enjoy the forum and have fun!

No, a good old engine can survive many water pump replacements.

Fair winds.

Aloha Menado,
Welcome aboard! You're getting some good advice. Keep the engine until it just will not run any more without a major overhaul. Then, replace it with a Yanmar.
Kind regards,
JohnL
