New Member in Reno Nevada USA

Hi all,

I have searched this site many times while deciding what boat to buy for retirement. Thank you all who post answers to questions. Thought it was time to register and stop lurking.

I am 68 years old and will retire in 17 1/4 calendar days. I have found a Bruce Roberts Offshore 44 that I absolutely love. I intend to buy her in mid-August. Trying to decide whether to name her Freyja Njordsdotter or Mincing Rascal.

Cheers,
Rick

Thank you, Celestialsailor.

I was sailing in Weatherbird out of Red Hook at St. Thomas, VI. We invited the passengers of another boat over for dinner at one of the mooring fields. After dinner, one woman played a pennywhistle. I didn't have my Bodhran so I kept time by playing the saloon table with my hands. It is a great memory.

Welcome to CF, Rick... your choice of a Roberts 44 Offshore is an excellent one. I delivered one from Alaska to San Francisco a number of years ago and she performed very well as I recall. Cheers, Phil

Re: New Member in Reno Nevada USA

That is good news about the BR44, Capt Phil. Thanks!

I see you are at Stateline. I have a fractional ownership in a Catalina 270 sailing out of Tahoe Keys. Other end of the lake unfortunately.

Fair winds,
Rick

Re: New Member in Reno Nevada USA

No worries, Ric... the only recollection of a problem on that delivery was that I recall the stern post leaked excessively in a following sea coming south down the coast. It was a pretty minor issue and I did not address it on the delivery but mentioned the issue to the owner who I believe re packed the rudder gland. Other than that she was a great sailor, very comfortable in a seaway and surprisingly dry in a blow. Don't recall her name but hailing port was Dutch Harbor as I recall. I took one crew member to stand watch and it very easily handled even in crummy weather. Cheers, and good luck with your retirement project... Phil

Re: New Member in Reno Nevada USA

Thanks, Chief!

I will be retired at noon this coming Friday. Doing sea trials with the owner on Tuesday, Aug 4th. The owner/builder made every modification to the plans that I would have had I built her. It was almost uncanny when i looked her over last march.

The final challenge will be convincing my First Mate that she doesn't really need a house in Reno any more.

Cheers,
Rick
