Hi, all! New member, currently in North Carolina and planning on getting into sailing. Right now I'm in the reading everything I can find and learning phase. Looking at possibly joining the Carolina Sailing Club in Raleigh to get advice/experience/etc. My wife, 13-year old son and I hope to start ASA classes in spring. Excited to start!

Hi Mikemac, Cousin Skipmac here.

Good plan. That's how I started. Went out sailing with a couple of friends and got the bug. Came home and read everything that had anything at all to do with sailing, boating, boats, navigation, cruising, fixing boats, building boats. A lot of it didn't make sense until I got on a boat again but very quickly the pieces started falling into place.

mikemac -- welcome -- we had never been on a sailboat until we started the asa sailing classes back in dec 2000 - they were great and got us going -- being older we chartered a couple of times then in 2003 we purchased a new Jeanneau 40ds and have not looked back
we did do a lot of reading and a lot of weekend sailing and then more reading and learning from our frineds
we are now full time cruisers having done the western and now working on the eastern caribbean
