Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself since I am new to this forum and so very happy that I found it.

We (husband, daughter and myself) just recently sold our home and am currently living aboard our 30 foot Allied Chance (at least for the next two weeks while my daughter finishes out the year in school. We will then be moving to Mexico for the summer on our new 54 CT. I am looking forward to having more room! After that we are back to Southern California to try another year of high school for my daughter.

I look forward to reading all your wonderful posts.

Happy sailing!

Jackie

Welcome aboard.

Aloha Jackie,
Welcome aboard!! I'm new here too but have gained a lot of information in a short time from the really knowledgeable folks who offer it on this forum. Sounds like a great boat.
Regards, --John--

Hi John,
This really is a great forum! The CT is very big and roomy but alot of boat to handle to say the least. The bow thruster helps quite a bit.
Sailing Hawaii must be quite a challenge? Sounds like paradise to me.
Regards,
Jackie

Hawaii is a challenging paradise both nautically and politically. Weather is paradise. 56-86 with 85 percent humidity either raining or sunny. My side of the island (windward Big Island) we get 120-130 inches of rain a year so it is a bit tropical. We're the closest port to California but with the least services. On your way to the South Pacific, drop in for a cold cooler full.
A quarter century or more ago I used to sail/teach out of Fiddler's Cove South of Coronado on boats from 14 to 44 and lived in Chula Vista. Loved the sailing there.
Regards, --John--

Well it took quite awhile to post a photo but finally got it done. My summer has been spent in Mexico working on varnish and drinking margaritas
Had a little time the other day to take the CT54 out for a sail and although it is quite a challenge for the three of us we did pretty well. I am sure things will continue to get easier as we learn more about the boat.
Best,
Jackie

Hello Jackie:

I am planning on keeping my boat in Mexico. Where did you keep yours? How was the weather in the summer? Were you out of the Hurricane belt? Did you have any problems with insurance?

Oh Yeah. Welcome.

Hi Charlie,
The boat is in Ensenada so well out of the hurricane belt. Our standard insurance coverage in Southern California covers us from Pt. Conception to Pt. Santo Tomas in Baja so we did not have to make any changes. Customs has been a bit of a pain but that is mostly due to the fact that there was a change of ownership while the boat was in Mexico. It really is a plus if the marina you are staying at will walk you through the customs here unless you speak spanish fluently as we found that no one in customs here speaks even the smallest amount of english.
Where are you planning to keep your boat?
