New here from Texas

Hello All,
The wife and I have decided to go sailing when we retire (hopefully). We currently do not have a boat but hope to remedy that within the next year. Anyway, just here to say hi and to hopefully learn a thing or two before jumping in head first. Thanks.

Unfortunately not, which is kind of ironic. I grew up on on Lake Texoma and both of my parents worked at Cedar Mills Marina. Incase your not familiar, Cedar Mills is the home of Valiant Yachts. Anyway, I grew up with powerboats, not sails. My wife and I went a week ago to look at a few of the offerings at the marina. They have a few that may work but I am going to hold off and kinda get my bearings on what is out there. Since the owner of the marina is a good friend of my dad's, he said he would give me lessons so I am really looking forward to that. Thanks for the reply. Zeus.

Once you have more or less picked out the boat you think you might want you could mention it here on the forum and then get cruising folks opinions on that particular brand of boat. It really is good to look at quite a few and then compare them for features and price.
You probably know all this already, right?
Also, a marine survey is always a good idea for someone who is a first time boat owner.
Kind Regards,
JohnL

Hey Zeus My wife & I both work at Cedar Mills. She works in the canvas shop and I am a service tech. If you are up there again look us up. We have a small sailboat in a slip there and another here at home that we are refiting hoping to do some coastal cruising. Walter & Mary
