New Here :)

Hello :)

Am new here. Am a 31 year old male, grew up mostly on the Oregon coast and have a real love for the sea, but also understand it and respect it. Have never really been very far off shore yet, but am planing on making the sea my home full time.

My plans are to buy a project boat, fix it up and then move onto it and sail around the world. I have never sailed before, but have been doing alot of research and studying. Still have tons to learn as well.

Have a background in Information Technology, maintenance, motel management, and small business owner. Am currently trying to save up money to get a sailboat, fix it up, add solar power to it, and be able to live a simple life.

Re: New Here :)

Welcome aboard! Before you start looking at boats i would recommend go sailing as much as possible on all kinds of boats. People are usually pretty friendly, so getting out there shouldnt be a problem. The more you sail and talk with people the better education you'll recieve.

It's 8:25 AM, so you probably just went to bed, so you'll see this tomorrow...

Anybody who mentions great respect for the sea in their first post has all the makings of a great sailor... Aligned with the previous more exposure advice... Post a "looking to help crew" thread... Welcome to the forum!
In the harsh marine environment, something is always in need of repair...

Mai Tai's fix everything...

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you posting here. Dave said it best and I'd add that a basic sailing course would be helpful unless you've already got a goodly amount of sailing experience.
I'm an original Oregonian so know the coast a bit. Lots of project boats in and around Coos Bay or Astoria. Newport has a few too. Of course Portland has the most but not on the coast as you know.
