New Guy in Town via ASA Courses
Hello. I'm completing ASA 104 the first week of September and have no commitments after October 1. I'll be in St. Pete from Sept 8-15th, looking for any kind of ride (sailboat only, please) to put a few miles under my crew cap. Sailing has recently become the prime target in my personal bucket list. I'm 75, in good shape, fast learner, and have an itch to sail. Thanks. Bookswriter.

Welcome, Books.
Have you had a chance to get together with any Colorado sailors? Some of them probably also do ocean as well as local lake sailing.

Re: New Guy in Town via ASA Courses
Pat - (not certain how to respond to a blog) Managed to hook up with a boat owner at Lake Dillon for 4 hours of regatta racing. Needless to say I was mostly ballast, but I learned a lot. Blue Mesa Lake appears to have little interest in crews. I was planning to spend a week at the St. Pete marina to network and maybe catch a ride. Worst case scenario would be to charter a boat for the day with a captain. (A bit pricy). Thanks for your note. Ciao, David

Re: New Guy in Town via ASA Courses
David/Books,
I've been to Dillon a few times as well as Carter Lake north of Boulder and Chatfield in the sw Denver area. Chatfield has mid-week evening beercan races that might be a good opportunity to get a ride; you might check out the csyc.org Colorado Sail and Yacht Club web site. People sail out of the marina and boat ramp on the south center shore of the lake. I believe Victoria sailing school also keeps some boats at Chatfield. In SE Denver, the Community Sailing Foundation of Colorado has programs at Cherry Creek for both youth and adults. The Sailing Organization of Intermountain Lakes (rmsail.org) site would also be a way to make some contacts. Pat

Re: New Guy in Town via ASA Courses
One other little thought: If you happen to go by a sailing school/day charter rental place that has member and non-member (public) rates, and it's a slow day in the off-season with lots of boats not being rented and not much for the poor bored manager/skipper to do, and your social / networking / charm skills are pretty good... you just might be able to score the "member" rate or some sort of introductory deal.
