True. I was looking at an off-brand Chinese tablet, but they did not have any waterproof cases. By adding the right software and a GPS antenna
, one can get the same (and greater) functionality as a chart plotter.
It's all about personal taste. Don't let my mini rant discourage you from picking up a tablet you like. I just has a terrible experience with mine. Others did not. I think Samsung's are excellent. Iv'e had 3 different ones. Dropped them all repeatedly on tile and concrete, and barely had a scratch on them.
I'm running MX Mariner and testing out the newest OpenCPN
beta. Both are great programs and saved me from buying
a hard mounted chart plotter and GPS
