Maine liveaboard

Hello from beautiful Maine.
My girlfriend and I are full time liveaboards on a 33' trimaran. We have just completed our second year and plan on another five before seeking out warmer waters. Right now we are dockside for the winter in Portland for 6 months. April 15 we move to our mooring in Yarmouth. Looking forward to chatting with like minded people.

Re: Maine liveaboard

Welcome. Living aboard in Maine, in winter, must be a challenge. Good luck!

Re: Maine liveaboard

Are you at South Portland or DiMilos? Just curious.

We thought about living aboard this winter in Portland but couldn't make a decision in time. We homeport in Stonington but are hauled for the winter.

Are you shrink wrapped? Can one do it oneself there? How large is the liveaboard community.?

We wintered 10yrs in Boston and Danvers while working and preferred the winter to the summers! Quiet and peaceful!

Thank you Orion Jim.

Re: Maine liveaboard

Hi sailor ed

We are at Dimillos this winter and in South Port last winter.
Dimillos is nice if your into walking to many different restaurants and bars. There are about ten boats with liveaboards but most people are in the hibernation mode so not a lot of socializing going on. We actually prefer Southport. More solitude, nicer bathrooms, and easier parking. We'll probably be back there next winter. Dimillos also lights up all the slips with very bright lights which is difficult to adjust to after 6 months of dark nights on a mooring.

Both marinas allow DIY shrinkwrap. I do my own but just over the cockpit area. I feel covering the entire boat is excessive and too much windage in a big blow. I don't mind clearing snow from the decks plus it allows me full access around the boat to break ice if the sea water starts to freeze up.
