Lord Nelson, Hans Christian, Pacific Seacraft and Grand Banks

I am pleased to join. My wife and I live aboard our Grand Banks 42 Europa in the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor in Honolulu. However I am a blue water sailor deep at heart with a love of all the boats I have owned: Beneteau First 32, Lord Nelson 41 (Hull #40), Hans Christian 38 MK II, and most recently a Pacific Crealock 37. In 1991 I founded the Lord Nelson Owners Association and I still have a large list of all the former 41s, Victory Tugs, and their past owners. My Lord Nelson was named "High Cotton", wonder what adventures she has had since I knew her. Our current boat is "Benevento". Would like to hear from those who share an interest in these boats.

Welcome to the forum. My son lives approximately 600 KM north and slightly west of your current boats namesake city. The Hans Christian 38 MK II is my personal favorite sailboat of all time for absolutely no reason other than it moves me when I look at one.

The Hans is an extraordinary boat, not that slow and an easy going sailor. The Pullman berth was the most comfortable I've found on a sailboat.

Welcome aboard the CF. I just happened to be staying at a hotel on Ala Wai Blvd. My sister and her mates are flying back to OZ in the morning.

Thanks for sharing.

Recommend the Hawaii Yacht Club and the Harbor Pub to meet fellow cruisers. Aloha.

Welcome to the forum...Did you find the Lord Nelson was of better construction than the HC? I've seen a few 38's with a few rot problems in the cap rail area.

Re: Lord Nelson, Hans Christian, Pacific Seacraft and Grand Banks

Hello and welcome,

What a fine list of boats you like or have owned. I'm surprised that you have not been chastised for liking Hans Christians. Usually such professions are followed by hails of too slow, need a full gale to move them, too much teak, too much teak too much teak!

My wife and I are planning to buy 'the boat' next winter/spring and get out of here. We have loved Hans Christians ever since we saw our first HC 33 at a local boat show. A couple of months back we visited an HC 43, also local, that has been haunting me since. I distinctly remember the feeling I had while standing on the deck that I was standing on a little ship. Not a boat but a ship.

We also visited Annapolis recently and revived my love of Pacific Seacraft 40's. I have been in love with that boat for ages.

It's pretty much down to those two with the occasional glance at a Cabo Rico or a Passport.

Luigi

Re: Lord Nelson, Hans Christian, Pacific Seacraft and Grand Banks

Regarding the speed of a Hans Christian, they are undoubtedly heavier with a more conservative sail plan but it's not that big of a deal. Under ten knots of wind no one is happy, and over ten knots an HC is fine for sailing.

And when you get over 40 knots, and everything is still hunky dory, it's a nice feeling.

We own Lord Nelson sailboat 41 hull # 54, Lady Nelson, whose first owner was Loren and Lani Hart. We would like a copy of your list of LN 41 sailboats. Tell us more about the Lord Nelson Owners Association you founded.
