there is a website you could google

ahoy! and cheers

kudos on your adventurous spirit!

there is a website devoted to hooking up volunteer crew (free ride and food but working tour) with owners of boats heading out that needs crew.

I have a friend that has voyaged as crew using this site. I'll see this friend sometime this week and ask him the name of the site. Otherwise, just venture onto the web and surf the google wave to find it yourself.

he had a blast heading from Portland OR to Alaska last year on a 50' + sailboat. He got room and board. Crewing on someone else's expensive toy is hardly work, but I guess you could say he had to work for his trip. He loved taking the helm and learned a lot about sailing on the way. The food was good I hear.

First Mate.
