Hey there
I'm quite new to the whole sailing topic but I think, I start to find true love I want to learn as much as possible about sailing and I would be more than happy to hire on some boats as a true crew member. I met a sailor during my travels in NZ and he gave me the idea of sailing to fiji.
And i hope this website can help me with finding knowledge and maybe even a boat to hire on!

First thing I would do is find a local boat owner that would be willing to take you out and get some hours/days of sailing time under you. Absorb as much as you can with short trips first and learn your way around a sailboat.

One of the ways I learned to sail is I found a racing crew that was willing to take on a rookie, (Me) until I got the feel of it and I was hooked ever since.

Sometimes, by being at the right place at the right time, even someone new to sailing and get lucky and get a long-distance ride. Of course, it helps to be very tolerant and to be good at reading people in order to avoid the more marginal skippers or boats, and usually you'll have a better chance of getting rides and enjoying a fun, safe voyage if you start out with shorter sailing trips and work to learn a lot of the basics.
