My husband is there now. I'll text him and ask him to check on Adios. Communication is spotty, o I usually have to wait for him to get in touch with me. He did say earlier that the boats back in the Harbor (and I believe 9 is by the ship yard?) are floating.

Brandy, from the info we have received the floating docks are still intact and the boats are in good shape. But no specific details.

Chuck, All,

Just looked at pictures you posted. Also the information that pier 20 was destroyed but a few boats floating. My boat, Pathfinder was on Pier 20 Slip 21. If anyone has seen her or if she is still afloat there I would appreciate a note.

this is a link to photos from watergate. Brandy, I have a photo of 9A from the head of the pier, I recall seeing Adios from across the docks and she looks ok. For the most part Watergate is ok, torn sails, however several docks took direct hits, and total losses. To those folks we offer our condolences and thoughts. If we pick up any more we shall pass it along.

Thanks for the photos - especially of Waterford. That first photo was from where our boat was until just a few weeks ago - btw, the site of a tornado back in April! We had $25K in damages back then. Good to see Waterford and our friends in good shape. We heard most of the floating piers in Clear Lake did well: Waterford, Watergate (except for the ones noted here), Portofina, and Lakewood Yacht Club. We have friends with a trawler at Lakewood that sustained damage from a poorly secured neighbor...

From someone who lives in Typhoon Alley in the Philippines, my heart goes out to all of those hit badly by Ike.

Thanks Chuck for the photos, disturbing as they are. I don’t know that area but it seems the sheer density of boats makes it very difficult if not hopeless, to protect from this level of surge and wind.

I can now understand the emphasis on carrying boat insurance, but again excuse my ignorance, would those boats that were damaged at their slips, when the slips were destroyed, have any kind of coverage, or is this considered an “Act of God” type exemption in the US?

Bill,
I'll ask Trey to check on Pathfinder tomorrow. He said that there was no dock to walk on out there, but the breakwater was still there. Lots of boats in the fairway between 19 and 20.
