Long time lurker in the PNW

Good Day All,

Long time lurker on the boards and have finally broke down and registered. I really started getting the sailing itch two years ago and after drueling over sailboat ads and watching all the sailing vlogs out I grabbed a Sparrow 17 this spring and since then I have sailed my little sailboat all over the Columbia river from the warm waters of Lake Wallula to the currents of upper Lake Roosevelt (both are technically the Columbia River). I figure I have approximately 50 hrs of sailing experience in my boat in all kinds of weather (I have been called an idiot trying to sail reefed up in pretty healthy winds).

This spring I am looking to do one of the 5-14 day sailing learn and cruises in NW Washington / Vancouver and while the companies offering these excursions are charging a very fair rate if anyone is looking for an additional hand who has cut his teeth a bit I would love to come out for a bit. As my handle suggests I work in law enforcement so rest assured im not quite bat **** crazy.

I live up in kettle falls but occasionally I will trailer my boat down to burbank where I have family and sail her there.

Caver cop, you must be National Park Police. If so good gig. Lots of old friends in nps, lava beds, Death Valley and crater lake.

kettle falls? That's a new one, to me. Which county, if you don't mind sharing.

The BBT (Burbank Tavern) is definitely an interesting place. The Columbia in that area makes for very nice sailing.

Interesting is a good word for it. lol.
I haven't sailed up there myself, had a jet boat then, but I would imagine from the pulp mill to McNary Dam would be tons of fun, it blows like the devil there.

I knew a farmer out on Holdman Rd. that had a hydroplane/jet boat. I've had the fast toys but with sailing its just the whole get something for nothing. I mean to sail across the ocean with nothing but the wind to push you is something incredible to wrap your mind around.

Agreed, to read the story's and escapades of some of the blue water cruiser's here is amazing. I'm retired now, done with power boats, bought my first sailboat and won't look back. I'm loving it. Got to cruise the P.N.W this summer, racked up around 1100 miles, most solo.
There are some very fast boats around there. Was your friends boat orange or red, maybe both? I saw a very fast low freeboard jet boat in front of the mill one day, it was lighting fast, had to be doing around 100mph.

Re: Long time lurker in the PNW

No, it has been so long ago I don't recall anything about the boat other than the fact that it was a hydroplane.

I'm going to cross post this in the schools forum but does anyone have recommendations for schools or individuals here in the PNW. I'm not looking for and would prefer not having to pay for certification overhead when I never plan on chartering a boat but I am seeking to get out on the water for a period of 5-14 days. Whether this be through a school or just someone seeking an additional hand doesn't matter much to me.

Thank You,

My work schedule is so chaotic and I live so far from the ocean that I really had only one option which was just going out and doing it. Thankfully with my little sailboat and living so close to the majestic Columbia I can leave my house and be in the water in about 30 minutes which made for many an afternoon sail.
