Long time listener...First time caller

Hello all!

I'm Luke, and I've been creeping around the halls here for a few years. I felt like I'd better join your community so I can ask a few direct questions in the future. I've spent a fair bit of time on/in the water, and can't wait to get back to the saltier variety. Right now, we have a fleet of boats, but nothing "blue water" capable unless you count my 21' mod V that I'd REALLY like to run to Bimini on. We are on our second houseboat, a 73x16 Stardust, and we have a few smaller boats. (I build a few aluminum boats when the weather shuts us down for the winter, but only up to 20') Right now, cruising is a romantic idea, but just won't fit our life for a while so we'll just have to stick to Dale Hollow Lake. Our goal is to have a nice, comfortable sailing yacht in about 6-8 years that we would use between Florida and the Caribbean in the winter months. My wife loves life on a boat, but she's not too keen on the in between destinations part yet. In the mean time, I'll be on the hunt for something trailerable to learn on, and I expect some great advice on what that should be. I'll start a thread in the appropriate place at the appropriate time, but feel free to shout out your thoughts at anytime.

Thanks for having me,

Luke

I assume you are talking about the learning size boat, and the thought did cross my mind. It looks to me like I should understand more about a sailboat before I dive into a project like that......And it seems like a smaller used boat would be cheaper than a new set of sails for a new build? I do have a thing for expensive projects though! If you are talking about building a cruising sized boat, then I'll refer you to the 6-8 year time frame. I'll have to do a search for home built boats.
