Let the flogging begin.

Hello all,
A few years back, between the separation and divorce, I had a, albeit brief, lapse of sanity. In that time period I managed to bring a vessel into my life.
I had visions of grandeur on restoring and living aboard. But the month after purchasing, I was sent abroad for work and was gone for a bit. I've been back state side for a while and have managed to get some things done but I'm way behind schedule.
I need basic sound advice and multiple kicks to my backside. My storage fees now equals my purchase price.
Ok.......you may begin.

Cut your losses & sell her for whatever you can get (at worst: give her away). Enjoyment in her sees very far away for me- life is too short...

I've never seen an actual 'pushpit' on the stern of a double-ender before. What is the purpose of that?

Get your butt into action and stop typing on forums and get down onto that boat and get some freaking boat done you lazy slug. These things don't just get done by themselves like magic, this isn't a video game!

I LOVE a chance to do some flogging

That boat looks awful familiar.

52’ Steel with some keel problems?

Any man that buys a boat like that has some genius inside him. Get moving on that thing. She's destined to go places.

Re: Let the flogging begin.

Flip a coin.

If you don't like the result, make the other choice anyway. Then make a list of priorities with the idea of making sailing possible during the process of chores, so that you reward your own progress. Remember, the journey of a thousand miles starts with one step.

Instead of self indulgently mourning how much there is to do, and letting yourself feel overwhelmed, get busy, create your own progress, or sell the boat or give it away, and move on with your life. Sorry to sound harsh, but it is past time for chit chat, it is time for "tough love."

Re: Let the flogging begin.

It's only money
It's already spent, gone, done!
Boats are terrible assets, better regarded as liabilities!
Make a decision to suit your life now. Scrap it or give it away. Do what your life now requires/demands.
Simple really, isn't it???

Re: Let the flogging begin.

Aaahhhhh....... I'm feeling so much better.
Thanks to each and every one of you for those encouraging verbal nudges. Only by committing to Opus Die could I have bled more.

This was actually a search for a crew.....and you're all it!
Ann, you have the distinct privilege of carrying the big stick.

Now, back to work.

Re: Let the flogging begin.

Never ever count up what you put into a boat after purchase-its always to much.
The amount of joy you'll have when finally being on the water is worth it.

And remember 80% perfectionism is enough. Keeps some cash and time for sailing that one.

Most important enjoy!

Still, if you never cruised and live aboard, ensure yourself that it's really what you want.

Re: Let the flogging begin.

Looking at that boat the very first question that comes to mind is what are your sailing goals and how well does that boat meet them? Hard to tell what it needs from one picture but is your goal to go sailing or to work on a boat for a few years and then go sailing? If the former then it might be the wrong boat.

Re: Let the flogging begin.

Paint it, splash it and sail it if that is your intention, if you intend to re-fit hire half a dozen skilled workmen and bring a wheelbarrow of cash every Friday for 9-12 months.
I'd try to find another dreamer with a little boat cash burning a whole in his pocket, life's too short.

Re: Let the flogging begin.

If you really want to sail it - why not locate it to a place where you can move onto it? Not too comfortable, but you'll have a lot of time to work on odd projects, and it will get you committed to finishing it. With living expenses being less, there's more for the boat refit.
