Less Than 2 Years To Go

Until retirement. I am considering a 1969 Tartan 26. Everything sounds wonderful, but what should I watch out for? New sailor and more than likely will be single handed.

Re: Less Than 2 Years To Go

Welcome Marie...I had a 1966 Tartan 37. The older ones are known for soft deck issues...I said deck...not...oh never mind! The 30 is a nice boat also.

Aloha and welcome aboard!

Spongy decks are to be avoided.

Re: Less Than 2 Years To Go

With a boat of that age, watch out for everything, but the two hidden deal breakers are soft decks (wet, rotted core) and a bad engine. I had a general survey done on our first boat but also had a diesel mechanic come and give the engine a thorough going over.

You should watch out for the fact that you will want to go bigger!

Welcome to the CF!

Mac:

I have heard that from a few sailors. Thank you for your response.
