Late post but a newbie also

Hello Crusers and wannabe's,
I've been monitoring and contributing to this forum for a couple of weeks now and I'd like to say it is very well setup. The best I've seen yet! It would be nice to be able to post pictures to the board but I understand the memory is overwhelming. I've seen other sites crash and had to discontinue accepting pictures. Also, a spell check would be nice for us people that over look the mistakes in our proof reading.

As for myself, I'm in my early 50's and been around boats since 1969. I've been over most of the Pacific compliments of the Navy. My hope for the near future is to cruise the Visayan Is. of the Philippines. My wife was bore there and it would be nice to retire amoung her relatives. Mind you, staying on the vessel.

We have two s/v's, one a 23' on a trailer and the other a 40' retired racer that I'm converting to a cruiser. I'll give more details in another section, with link to pictures, later on.

It looks like there is a lot to learn here and maybe to give a little advice related to my profession.

Thanks!

Thanks for the good feedback and welcome to the board delmarrey.

Yes, if we allow too many and big images to be uploaded into the database it will overload the database and make the board slow and uninteresting to stay on.

The website though has plenty of space, actually 9 GB, so I will think of one easy way for you all to upload images to the server.

But in the meantime you will have to link to images on other servers.

I'll also see what we can do about spell checking.

Spell Checking

I could have implemented spell checking on the site, but since it would cost me another US$150 yearly to run this free and non-commercial site I have to skip it.

The forum engine is ready for spell checking delivered from SpellChecker.net

We may choose to implement spell checking later if a lot of members wants it - but it may slow down the performance a little bit more ...

Thumbs up Thanks for the effort!

It was just a thought. It seems your carrying this site on your own. I haven't noticed any advertisments or spam. No since of putting any more of a burden on a free service.

You're right!

Yes delmarrey, "we" are a very small organization

But I think it's fun and wanna to keep it non-commercial and free.

Anyone that want's to help this site grow and become valuable for the cruising community is welcome to do so; ie monitoring a forum of particular interest, referring the sithe to others, contributing in discussions etc.
