Landlocked....for now
New here, and to sailing I guess. My wife has infected me with her dream, and I must say, I'm more into this than I was prepared for. She learned to sail a few years back during a separation, and has wanted her own boat since.
November of '07 she realized her dream, and is the proud owner of a Cal 25 of 1969 vintage. Solid deck, new bottom paint, beefier rigging and good sail inventory. I've been busy installing a depth sounder, making new hatch boards, galley modifications for storage, and actually have made time for sailing. That's one good thing about Vegas, the winters aren't too harsh. One good thing is, the previous owner installed a Mermaid marine a/c-heat system. It'll make Miller time in the slip more enjoyable when it's 110 degrees outside. This is the boat we'll learn on while I get my years in at my school district job, the final plan being to move up to something large enough to cruise on at retirement. Not too big, after all I realize the bigger the boat, the bigger the hole in the water to be filled with money.

She bought the boat but you're doing the work on it? Smart cookie your girl!

And, for the geographically challanged (I'm in Australia) Las Vegas is in the middle of the desert last time I spun a few coins onto the roulette table. So you are high and dry?? Or are the artificial water features of the casinos getting bigger?

well, looks like you hit the pendulum at just the right time course just as then was a good time to sell, now and the immediate future are going to be great times to buy

Lake Mead is the largest man-made reservoir in the United States.
The 158,000 acre Lake has a length of 110 statute miles and 550 stat. miles of shoreline (when full).

I've only owned three sailboats in my life -- a West Wight Potter 15, a Cal 25, and a Pearson Triton. The Cal 25 is a GREAT boat! Not a lot of headroom, but a good, solid boat that sails well.

I recall like yesterday our first boat - a 21 foot trailor sailor - and its hard to recount just how much pleasure she gave us as we started out.

I counted 114 MASTS in the marina the other day. And we are in the small marina.
The weekend cruise by the sailing club, and the sunset so common here.
