L.A. to Portland

Hello everyone,

I am new to this board and fairly new to sailing in general. I have been day sailing on the Columbia River in Portland OR, on a Cal 20. I have read lots of books on sailing and theory and would like to get more into cruising. I have been looking into buying a boat, and have found one that I really like and that fits my budget and wants in a boat. My only problem is the boat is in Marina Del Ray in the L.A. area. The boat is a 1975 Islander 36. I would really like to find someone with experience who would like to do this trip just to do it. I understand it's not really an easy trip. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

Aloha Mitch,
Not many will sign on to make a trip that direction. There has been some discussion here about the same subject in the last couple of months.
You would have an easy time getting crew to sail to Hawaii which is a great 20 day sail and then from Hawaii to Seattle or Portland in another 20 days.

Yup out to Hawaii and around is the only way to do it sailing, now you can slog up the coast motoring most of the way but who wants to do that.
