You're going to have a blast. I'm jealous.

Just make sure you have at least a CB radio that works.

It will come in handy if you need to call for help.

A friend put one on our boat 27 years ago when we first stated boating. I'm glad he did, otherwise I would have been stranded in 7 knot currents at night with no wind and a dead engine in deep, but with shoals, very cold waters - Puget Sound - with essentially no one else on the boat to help me.

btw - what is the name of your boat?

I have been held up the last week, I will be held up this week to, but I am taking ya'lls advice, I am heading to Rockport and corpus Christi and my dad seems interested in going some so that will be good! Oh, and my boats name is Cosmos

I'm in Port O'Connor and if you need any help let me know. 361-212-6286 I would make sure you have a working VHF. You can get fuel here if need but the town is not sailboat friendly. If you need a crew from here to CC I would love the chance to sail down to CC with you.

get some kind of communication device on the daggoned boat. something minimal is better than nothing. that was my point.

I just obtained some maps and noticed what you mean.

Sorry for the delay in response, I have had a lot of excitement recently. I purchased a 1979 Watkins 27' thats just a beauty. She has a outboard and a A/C unit where the diesel motor was. Shes nice and beamy and very solid. Shes named Echo, which even has a wood carving of the name. I like it and plan to keep the name. I sold my 1968 Westerly today to a guy who was very excited about her, rightfully so. He seems like hes will do everything I wish I could have done if I had both the time and the money.

I am looking for some solar panels to mount up, does anybody recommend a place to purchase a nice large one to help keep the batteries tended, I currently have no way to charge the battery.

I got mine off ebay. I would also get a charger regulator.

This is the one I got. New 12V 6 Watt 400mA Solar Panel Power Charger - eBay (item 250319580504 end time Nov-08-08 10:26:32 PST)

It keeps the battery up. I know others will have a better suggestion.

Thats a good choice, I don't have a way to get it delivered, I have no address. I guess I can have it delivered to the marina.

Do you think home depot will have one like that?

Home Depot has some but not at that price. I would just have it delivered to the marina.

Awesome, I will get one ordered up tomorrow when I figure out what marina I end up at.

BTW I took the boat out today and soon as I got out of my slip, my throttle cable snapped and while drifting I ran ground trying to get out of Portafino. Luckly I purchased tow boat USA insurance, unlimited plan, early this morning so it was nice and free.

She sails really well and was lots of fun.

If you ever need a sailing buddy one weekend or some help around the boat, give me a shout. Im in Houston... just completed my Keel Boat course and will take the coastal/bareboat early spring time.
