My name is Dominic and I'm a 30-year old British newbie with no sailing experience, but desires to learn. I started my first leg of cycling around the world, the Americas, in April 2011 and between then and now have covered just over 40,000km (25,000 miles) between Florida
and here in Costa Rica
. Just think how much shorter that would have been if I'd been in a boat!
As 13 of the 35 countries in the Americas are islands in the Caribbean
, of which I've only been to Cuba
on this trip, I'm considering my ways of getting to them. I was talking with a friend of mine who frequently helps his sister with the passage
up to New York
from the Caribbean
he said I should post here to learn. I was thinking of getting to Venezuela/Trinidad & Tobago
in October and was then hoping to go island hopping all the way up to the Bahamas
with a period of time in each country to have a chance to get to know them.
I assume this is radically different to what most of the people here, and I'm all ears and ready to listen to advice and suggestions on the best way to achieve this!
