Just joined in Portland OR

Hi Folks,

Steve here, in Portland Oregon. Just joined the forum. I am 64 year old guy with a 10 year old Australian Shepard, getting ready to live aboard and cruise. Would love to meet other cruising sailors in Portland area, particularly CT/Formosa owners and boat dog people.

Tim, Will let you know in a few days. Right now in the process of putting in an offer on a CT-41 in pretty nice condition.

Re: Just joined in Portland OR

Welcome aboard V-Dawg.

I spent my teen years in Portland back in the 60's. The city planner did a good job of laying out the street system. It was easy to find addresses.

Hope you enjoy the forum!

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you here. I fly into Portland each time I go visit family in Salem. Last October I helped a friend prepare his boat at Hayden Island Schooner Creek. Had a good time exploring there. Had a few senior coffees at the McDonalds and couple great breakfasts at the Denny Restaurant.
My old wood ketch was similar in design to the CT/Formosa.
My dog's a Border Collie/Ausie Shep mix. Great dog!
kind regards,

Re: Just joined in Portland OR

Hi folks,

A little update since I have not looked at this for almost 3 months.

I bought the boat (which is why I haven't looked here lately - too busy). Now almost three months into a refit. NONE of the typical scary stuff one hears about CT & Formosa boats. Original teak decks with no signs of core rot, NOT a "leaky teaky", and appears to be very well built. I can safely say that now that I have crawled every inch of her, traced every wire, and examined every feature. Mystique has been sitting for about 10 years, so there are "iron worms" to exterminate, like corroded wiring and decade old fuel. Has a rebuilt motor that has never left the dock and the boat has never been cruised if even offshore. That is all going to change soon.

take care,
Steve & Aleutia

Re: Just joined in Portland OR

Thanks. Got a reconditioned Morse sewing machine to repair, first the Bimini, so I could learn to sew, then keep as sail repair tool when we get underway. Got the machine from Hillsboro Vac & Sew - GREAT guys who like supporting sailors. I highly recommend them. They spent hours setting the machine up to tackle multiple layers of Sunbrella, even after I paid for it, and charged me nothing. Machine was totally rebuilt for $200. They look for and repair these and will ship them anywhere in the world.

Re: Just joined in Portland OR

Welcome the forum, I sail out of Coos Bay, but currently in Klamath Falls. Doing a refit on my new boat and thinking about heading to the San Juan islands. Was going to go back to La Paz, but things are changing down there. Maybe our paths will cross somewhere...Michael...

PS.. the dog is Ruby Jean, a Brittney Spaniel...
