Just bought a boat!

Hi everyone I'm Colin and I just bought a Jarkan 34 yacht in Western Australia. I am over the moon and in love as she is in great condition for her 30 years and just feels so 'right' to me. Both the sea trial and the survey proved that with just a small amount of work she is ready to go cruising big time and that is exactly what I intend to do soon.
After a long working and (mostly) responsible life I am finally preparing to cut my land ties and set sail for a whole brand new adventure.
I look forward to communicating with you all through the forum, perhaps down the track in person too.

Congratulations Colin! I've been spiffying up a boat that I just bought last year and there is nothing better than getting truly familiar with your boat before you set off (except for actually setting off that is... ;-) )

Good on you Colin, Now all you need to do is get you and your boat to the east coast where the best cruising grounds abound.

You bet! Thanks for the welcome. The East coast is my destination when I set off in October. This period in between will be for some prep work and minor repairs that need to be done (window seals, water tank repair and a few other bits and pieces).
Best prevailing winds for a Bight passage are November/December so the timing should be right. Any advice on this first voyage will be most welcome as its all new to me.

Lived here for about seven years. Yes it is a quiet town, we were hoping to be off by now but things changed so hopefully this summer will head down to Tassie for a look. If you like oysters you better call in.

Recherche Bay, D'Entrecasteaux Channel, Norfolk Bay, Port Arthur, Maria Island, Freycinet with the iconic Wineglass Bay - and for the adventurous Port Davey - best time late January through to April settled and soft weather! Hundreds of sheltered uncrowded anchorages. Oh Hobart too! Beautiful city!!

I to would like to cruise Tassy but SWMBO says " If I need more than a sarong We are not going." That is why we are in Far North Queensland and not in the Whitsundays at the moment.
