John from California

Hello everyone! As an introduction, I'm John. I'm married to my high school sweetheart (it took us 30 years to finally tie the knot, better late than never!) and we live in Central Coastal California. We're transplanted here - originally from the South. My retirement dream has always been to extensively sail when I had the chance and now I do! I'm a professional falconer and it's seasonal work as the birds go into the molt during the summer so I'm taking advantage and we will FINALLY be getting our Bareboat Cruiser in August 2014. We intend to continue on with our Advanced Coastal Cruising next spring. We don't have a boat yet. We'll probably charter for a while unless we can find a smaller trailer-able boat. I'd love to hear your suggestions in that respect - the best way to proceed but immerse ourselves in the sailing lifestyle. I'd also like some input into life aboard with pets. Thanks all and I'm looking forward to meeting you all!

Hi John, what a sweet story. Welcome to CF! You might want to check out the sailing meet-up groups. Lots of them around SF Bay. I'm semi-active with 'Got Wind and Water,' but I've seen others. Club Nautique seems to be really active for chartering and group sails. Feel free to PM me if you two would like to sail with me. I often race on Saturdays, and then will take friends out on Sundays.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
That's a long coast you are on. Lots of opportunities to sail.

Re: John from California

Thanks Skipr! We have a boat now and we are now both ASA Bareboat Charter certified. We're taking ASA105 (Coastal Navigation) this winter for ASA106 (Advanced Coastal Cruising) in May. We've bought a Windrider 17 (basically a trailerable kayak with outriggers and sails) and we're chartering every chance we have. I've got a 24 hour charter Monday and it will be my first taste of sailing at night.
