Island Trader Motorsailers

This is all new to me, as I'm not very well versed in computers. However, while surfing the web, I stumbled on a discussion about motorsailers. Having been a liveaboard for fifteen years, and on an Island Trader 40 for eight of them, I felt compelled to put in my two cents worth. My wife and I have done the great loop, among other things, out to Bermuda, Bahamas, etc. We have swallowed the anchor in a little town named Mandeville, in La., on the shores of lake Pontchartran and just North of New Orleans. We still have our boat,m and sail some on the lake. I probably should have changed paragraphs several times already, but I don't know how to make this damned cursor do what I want. I guess I have to go to my E mail to see replys, or come back to this site? ............. I look foreward to future discussions, thanks, Dudley

We love this boat, and have done several things to her to make her more seaworthy, sailable, and "cruisable" . We are both still working fulltime, (after 15 yrs. aboard) trying to make up for lost earnings over the years. Our sights are now turning more toward RVing , and we are considering selling our baby. If you wish, I'll give you a critique of Marine Traders' Island Trader MS line, and tell you what we did to ours.....DUDLEY.

Dudley, Which IT do you have? Is it a 46'? We have one and we get people contacting us all the time to see if there are others out there for sale.

No, we have a 40' galley up. Bought it in 1992, it is a 1982 mod. We don't know of any for sale at the moment, but then we aren't looking. In the past, we've seen some on the market, but they were generally pretty sad. I do recall seeing one on the hard in Annapolis some years ago that was getting a total refit, and it was a knockout. That boat is still out there somewhere and if it were for sale it would be a catch. Tell people who inquire to check with the home office for M. T. in Toms River N.J........... All for now, Dudley
