Introduction of s76640

Hi,

I'm a longtime sailor beginning with races on Lake Allatoona outside of Atlanta and now sailing on Lake Superior and Lake Pepin in Minnesota and Wisconsin. I've been lucky enough to take the Sailboats Inc. courses, including blue water and navigation, and have sailed Lake Ontario, off the coast of France, in the Philippines. Other interest is photography.

I'm currently reading "Rounding the Horn" by Dallas Murphy. It's an exciting description of a trip the author takes down to Cape Horn and the surrounding area and it's also a history and naturalist description of the area.

Welcome aboard Steve. The Philippines has been part of my long-term stomping grounds in the past as well.

What are you sailing in these days?

Hi Gents,

Thanks for the welcome.

These days I'm sailing anything that anyone needs a crew on! Lake Superior is too far away for me to keep a boat up there. A guy that I knew who kept a C&C 38 at Bayfield said that whenever he felt like spending a weekend not sailing, he felt too guilty. He finally chartered the boat most weekends and kept about a month for himself. (My understanding is that that became a less attractive option when the tax rules and investment returns changed.)

Aloha Steve,
Welcome aboard! Good to have you here sharing experiences. I too sailed in the PI but only in Subic Bay. I was on lots of ships there though and even got down to Cebu City.
Kind regards,
JohnL
