Introduction - from S. Africa

South Africa

Hi members,

This is to introduce ourselves on the Cruisers & Sailing forum. We are Niels & Margret living in South Africa - Plettenberg Bay. We own a hotel and are in the progress of having a 49' aluminium sailing yacht build in Cape Town. We are originaly from the Netherlands and planned to cruise around the world when the boat is ready. We only have a rough idea were to go, but are open hear about those spots who are not in the "brochure". We probably also post some questions on the forum with regards to practical tips/advise from experienced cruisers, so we are able to introduce this on our boat. 1 question I already have is: we think about a folding or feathering prop, but not sure if it reliable for the long run. . Please maybe some can advise.

Regards Niels

Welcome to the forum, Niels. Hope you enjoy it here!

You'll be able to get a lot of advice on good cruising destinations, and a number of our members have folding or feathering props, so I'm sure you'll hear their thoughts.

Aloha Neils and Margret,
Welcome aboard the forum! I opted for a folding prop so that I would not foul it on lines and debris in the water. If I had a full keel or skeg I probably would go with a two blade fixed due to simplicity.
There are many opinions on propeller choice so do some research here:

Hi and welcome to the forum. Just keep reading back through all the posts and you will pick up an incredible amount of information about great places to go. There again anywhere new to us is good but it's a matter of preference. Good luck and fair winds.
