Hi everyone
I'm a late starter I guess.... I have
family members who have taken up sailing, some of whom became cruisers and spent their life working on boats.
Myself, I just knuckled down and worked on my career and now that I am past my mid 40's and 2 international relocations and 2 divorces later, I find myself wondering whats next ????
I'm looking for a shift in the pace of life and potentially looking for a vessel suitable for
living aboard in SE AK. My preference would be for a
steel hulled vessel. If cost were no option, one of the "diesel ducks" would probably be ideal. Most sailing in those
parts will be done in relatively narrow waterways with
fog, traffic and ice and floating
logs to contend with... Hence my preference for something that is a little more impact resistant...
The climate is not as cold as the inland areas, but heat will certainly be needed and likely spray foam
insulation to kill
condensation. I'm likely to buy used to start (so I have a place to live and can get some
work prospects lined up), then would look to do a
DIY build for long term. I think living in the climate will guide details of an "ideal"
boat for the area.
Thats it... My brief summary of future plans...
