Re: Inland River Cruisers

It REALLY bugs me when people operate their boats as if they are the only ones there.

Re: Inland River Cruisers

Well this one got off track fast.

If I read the sequence of posts correctly the reference to being laid back was in response to excursions in the dinghy while on a gunkholing trip down a delta or waterway.

Not sure why that should be construed to mean inattentive seamanship while underway in a busy channel with watercraft out and about.

Nor were a couple of responses to that very polite or necessary as well.

I hope to be cruising up the rivers in Alabama this year, looking forward to it greatly.

You mischaracterized the thread. One poster mentioned a canoe trip and another about "dinkin" but others mentioned undescribed boats. I brought up the idea one needs to keep alert while piloting no matter how scenic, relaxing, etc. an inland trip may be. This is particularly important because of the constrained waters and often-limited sight view. For that, I'm attacked with "cutesy" remarks.

Re: Inland River Cruisers

Possibly Mark, but I didn't intend to.

Your first post was in response to a statement about dinking around the delta. It included a statement about watching instruments not typically installed on dinks. I felt it was out of context regardless of the suggestion of diligence while underway.

Granted the response you received from a fellow southerner disappointed me more than your expressed concerns. That behavior would have received a stern glance from my granny, if not a swift kick in the ass.

Re: Inland River Cruisers

We have traveled the Ohio and Mississippi rivers from Evansville, IN to New Orleans. Lots of info and pics on it in our blog. Rivers are a lot of fun.

Aloha and welcome aboard,
Would really like to do the Loop someday. Yes, I'll pay attention to traffic. Always have and always will. You learn that stuff when you're trained by the Navy.
kind regards,
