I Think it's Time We Said Hello

After a few posts, I think its time we said hello! (And thank you saucy sailoress for the nudge.)

We are Manny and Robyn, a couple of sailors who have been cruising and living aboard boats for over twenty years. We started out in Ontario Canada but these days we are living aboard Yofy, our Fortune 30 sailboat, in the Gulf of Aqaba on the Red Sea.

Manny is a marine technician and Robyn is a yoga instructor. We have a blog about our life aboard and a website about our work. We also post DIY projects and interesting information about boat maintenance and yoga.

This is a great forum. We look forward to meeting and learning from you all!

Hi there, welcome aboard; and thanks for fixing those links, your blogs are excellent and moving.

It's always great to have folks onboard from far flung places who can bring a different perspective to the cruising picture. Plus it's nice to have someone else who's likely to be awake at the same time as me!!

Thanks guys.
Saucysailoress, nice to meet a "local" sailor. You are the first liveabaords that we've heard from who are in the Persian Gulf!

Not liveaboards, tho - well only at weekends. It's kinda against the law here to live on yer boat...!

Re: I Think it's Time We Said Hello

Shame you can't live aboard but weekends is a good start.

CaptForce, Stan Huntingford did design a beautiful boat in the Fortune 30. She sails so well and can carry a lot of cargo with her. Right now our aft cabin is Manny's garage and our bottom is really foul but we still can keep up with the best of them underway. She points well too!..... Just wish she was a couple of meters bigger... he he... we're never satisfied...

Re: I Think it's Time We Said Hello

Hi Yofy!!

I live aboard in San Diego and would like to explore living aboard in Israel. I am considering Aliyah and to complete medical training at Rambam in Haifa. I wondered if you know anyone living aboard in Haifa, or of other possibilities to live aboard in Israel.

Thank you!
Holley

Re: I Think it's Time We Said Hello

Hi Holley,
There are people who liveaboard in the Haifa Marina, but sadly it is very polluted. The city has worked towards cleaning up Haifa harbor these last years and its somewhat better, but the air quality is still terrible. And there aren't any real alternative options close by.

The biggest problem for sailors wishing to liveaboard in Israel is marina space. Haifa, Herzilya, Tel Aviv and Jaffa marinas all have long waiting lists. The other remaining marinas in the country are filling up quickly too. Don't really know why the government doesn't get a hussle on and build some new marinas. There is talk... but nothing is happening as of yet.

Having said that there are quite a few liveaboards living in marinas around the country. Some have managed to buy boats and keep their moorings.

Good luck with your thoughts on Aliyah. Livingaboard would be a great way to chill out after a shift at the hospital
