I need to SAIL!

I'm currently living close to Nashville and just wondering if anyone else out there in Tennessee would be willing to show me the basics (or more!) on their boat? I'd pay what I could but just really have caught the bug and I desperately want to learn this beautiful craft.

Go to your local marina and purchase a sailboat. That is how I did it last fall. In one hour, I owned a mac 25.

Low on funds? Go hang out at your local marina, while you read books on sailing from the library. Someone will ask you what you are reading. Strike up a conversation, and in an hour, you could be on the water.

This year I moved up to the largest sailboat my lake will lease you a slip for, 32'

Get started tomorrow.

Re: I need to SAIL!

A couple hundred dollars will get you some beginner lessons. You'll be sailing in a leaky tub in a puddle of lake water, but you'll be sailing!

You can get little toy sailboats for $1000 or less, usually including a trailer. It can be towed with a Fiesta, if you can find one with a hitch.

"Real" sailboats can be gotten for less than 20 grand -- your biggest costs will be the storage and maintenance on a boat like that. If you find that you don't have the time you thought you would, a boat like that can gradually become a major albatross.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
I hope someone close can introduce you to sailing. Then, if you truly like it the best way to learn is by first reading and taking a basic sailing class. Lots of how to books in your local library and I recommend "Start Sailing Right."
kind regards,

Re: I need to SAIL!

There's some marina's on Percy Priest lake. You can try finding someone around there to help you or, like suggested, find something for sale to go out and figure it out.

Ditto!
Take some courses. Then you will know if you really have the bug. For all you know you may get sea sick right off. A good math background is good to have.
