Howdy
I got this site from 'the other forum'. I thought I would come by, say hi, and see what you are all about.
I live in Homosassa, FL. I have a Macgregor 25, recently purchased first sailboat. It is our (myself and wife) intention to learn to sail on it, then upgrade/upsize in a few years.

Howdy and Welcome Aboard!
You may catch some ribbing later from people that don't like Macs.
But in my view a person WITH a boat is better off than a person who only wishes they had a boat. (a situation I find myself in now).
I hope you enjoy your boat (regardless of make) and enjoy this forum too. It is full of humor and many people with admirable experience.
Have fun!

Lol ... Thanks for the welcome. I have a thick skin.
I have heard about the Mac thing. This one is a sailboat with a swing keel and a 6hp kicker. It isn't one with the water ballast and a 60hp outboard.
I haven't sailed it yet, should be out this weekend, and have no basis for comparison, but have been told it sails like a sailboat should.
I purchased it as a stopgap. My wife and I want to learn to sail and wanted something trailerable. When it has served its purpose, we will sell and get what we want.

Re: Howdy
I've had 3 or 4 MAC'S over the years, thay are great little boats in protected waters (lakes, bays , rivers, ect.) If your just learning to sail get a small ,reliable outboard to get you home, just in case. Get out there and have some fun , Bruce Heinemann

Re: Howdy
Aloha and welcome aboard!
Congratulations! Macs need love too.
I always recommend at least a basic sailing lesson to get you started on the right foot if you haven't had one before.
It's good to have you here. Let us know how your first sail goes. We've heard from a few folks that just bought a boat and set out to sail for their first time and had some "real" stories to tell.
kind regards,

As long as it gets you out on the water. Enjoy!
Welcome to CF.

Re: Howdy
Thanks for all the welcomes.
I had a few sailing lessons 30 years ago or so ... My wife and I chartered a Hunter 41 last year for a few days (with a captain). The kicker motor on the Mac runs well. Most of the sailing offshore here would allow us to walk in if there is a problem. We should be ok.
