How many power boaters here?

This is just to get the feel of the group a little more as there are either very few power boaters or the ones here are very quiet.

We are power boaters.

Power boaters yes, but slow speed, non planning, trawler style, long distance cruising style boats. More Nordhaven than carver. Just a guess.

Re: How many power boaters here?

I have a sailboat with an auxiliary engine. When I start the engine I come under the power boat rules of the road. I have a dinghy with an engine. Would that be considered a power boat when I'm not using oars.

I know what you're getting at by the poll but I could answer it so many ways.

I'm a sailboater.

Have a motorboat with sails, thus not fitting your selections. Jib not employed:

I don't have a boat, at least for now. I have to rent them. But, I charter sailboats.

Re: How many power boaters here?

Member of a boat club, until employment keeps me in one place long enough to maintain a boat. Also a member of a MeetUp group that sails.
Bottom line, powerboater for the short term - at least it gives me time on the water. Also, enjoy paddle sports - kayaking, SUP.

Re: How many power boaters here?

We've sailed most of our lives.... Started with a 24' Venture when the kids were toddlers. Progressed through larger coastal cruisers (several of which were even the larger Hunters). Our last sailboat was a custom made, quality ocean type before a major "redirection" in my career (unemployment, three kid's college) forced the sale of our dream asset so we could start a company to provide a living. Things worked out and I can now afford pretty much, any boat that I want, but now age & health dictate change. So, now we have a 47' power cruiser and 70 mph fishing boat that is used primarily to bond with the grand kids. This forum keeps me in touch with the love of sailing and cruising that got away from us. There is a voice inside me asking, "What the hell happened?"

Re: How many power boaters here?

We have a power boat, and do not intend to get a sail boat at our age.

I like it here at CF because its not about the boat here...

CF's prevailing theme is about what you do with the boat. The boat is almost unimportant except that is enables you to explore.

Re: How many power boaters here?

I don't have my boat yet - am still within the purchasing process - but assuming she passes survey, she's a 1984 Grand Banks 42 Classic with twin 135 Lehmans. I've always dreamed of cruising, but I tried sailing and felt it was a bit strenuous for me and realistically sailboats in the size range I find appealing seem to require a lot of people to operate properly.

I think there are a lot of cruising oriented topics, such as anchoring and self sufficient living generally, that are important for all boat types. There are many more sail than power cruising types, so I look forward to learning from everybody.

I'm sure I will need all the help I can get!

David

Re: How many power boaters here?

It doesn't matter what kind of boat but I think it is interesting to get a broader perspective of the people here. I do believe sometimes a few start to think of things as if everyone has the same type of boat or even enjoys the same things. Basically we all have boats or want boats and we enjoy using them on the water.

+1

I stopped posting on TF because I got tired of the ham fisted moderation but I also don't miss the posing and posturing.

Re: How many power boaters here?

I only have the sailboat, but would love a little 20 something center console for fishing and snorkeling.
