Wish I would have joined long ago maybe about 5 sailboats ago. The information is wonderful! Like I said I've bought lived and sailed 5 different boats in the last 10 years 40ft seawolf, 30ft catalina, 66ft custom ketch,40ft Mariner, & now my last one I hope 41CT. So far I've only sailed from San Diego to Mexico and Central America then back. Was a wonderful 3 1/2 years of cruising. Talk about the love/hate relationship in boating but the rewards are so worth it! Anyhow, I am happy to be a part of the cruiserforum.

Cool profile name! I got myself in a bit of trouble elsewhere using the word “wench” that is used in many pirate circles to generally describe seagoing women. Nevertheless, after the experience you have had on all those boats I suppose you as much as anyone deserve the title of pirate?

yeah, I have the experience. growing up mountaineering then sailing was a no brainer on having a sailboat and living on it. I was hired as first mate on 132 ft. delta as first mate picked up my STCW and will finish my course this week for my 100 ton ticket. But I have to say this lifestyle has become more difficult as I get older. My pride keeps me in it.

It's good to see more & more of the female gender getting out there. I took my 100 ton course with a gal from Alaska who worked on netting boats.

women don't have to look like sexy girls to be on a sailing vessel.. It's work from bleeding engines, changing racor filters, checking thru hull's, rigging, electrical systems, zinc's, Etc,,, Don't need to say more.... It's work and you need to stay on every system.. that's the only way I was able to turn every boat I had into a profit. Yeah, those pictures are OK but not my style...I'm a female cruiser not a DUDE..

I am so glad you did not take my comment offensively! Although I also appreciate the real work a boat needs, sometimes it does not hurt to have a bit of fun. I have to admit that being a fan of classic boats and a lot of other things old and/or collectable, I real admire how over in America there are a lot of serious pirate based societies and festivals. Coolest thing too is that since I sent my daughter to a pirate school at my local maritime museum, she now addresses me as Captain and had no drama getting in and helping me fix mechanical faults like a real seaman.

While I suppose you do get your “dudes” who have no real idea of the sea or even stereotype women as their galley slaves, these things could be a good way of using some of your nautical knowledge whilst letting your hair down and relaxing? Regardless, they even have these things in Memphis! http://www.pyratefestival.com/ If Elvis is still alive this one might finish him off? Either that or he will be there on the rum keeping low?

Maybe too some of us blokes could learn a few tricks from you? I know I am fairly new to diesel engines and am still waiting for something "baffling" (Admittedly basic) to go wrong.
