Hiooo from an Aircraft Carrier !

Hi there everyone! I'm new to this site and wanted to say hi, as the post title says I'm posting from an aircraft carrier but by no means is that my preferred sailing method . I've sailed mostly small daycruisers and even smaller boats like Lasers and Sunfish. My goal is to settle down someplace close to the ocean and at least do some coastal cruising and I'm hoping to get some good advice and tips from the forum and maybe even find a boat to crew with.

I'm open to and welcome all posts and questions, I hope to make a few new friends in the process! For now fair well and following seas!

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you here and thanks for your service. Lots of former and retired Navy types here. My ships were Destroyers and Cruisers, never got on a birdfarm.
kind regards,

Re: Hiooo from an Aircraft Carrier!

Hi Tom! I was lucky enough to "Tiger Cruise" twice with our Navy son from Pearl Harbor to San Diego aboard his amphibious carrier -- both trips were great 10 day adventures. But I can highly recommend cruising aboard a sailboat versus living aboard a carrier! It was fun being in the Navy for 10 days at a time! Welcome!

Cheers -- Jan

Welcome aboard the Forum, Tom. I'm sure you'll make a lot of new friends (especially those who might want a "buddy boat" on the Indian Ocean/Red Sea leg!). Thanks for your service, and hope you find your perfect boat.

That very much depends on the dock, doesn't it? LOA is important, but beam is critical, especially when warping.

Re: Hiooo from an Aircraft Carrier!

Forty-three years ago I was on the Enterprise and used to set alone out on one of the sponsons just to get closer to the water and pretend I was on a sailboat instead. Today I am sitting at anchor in Florida on our 27 foot sailboat and we just celebrated 6 years living aboard and sailing 5000 miles (albeit coastal cruising and not the circumnavigation I pictured when rounding the Horn on an aircraft carrier. I am one lucky and happy man!

DO IT as soon in life as you can! As Bob Bitchin' of Lattitudes and Attitudes magazine says "Live your dream, don't dream your life!" Good luck and have fun, life is shorter and goes faster than you think.

Thanks for the welcome! I'm hoping to get a little time aboard a small-boy at some point, I hear they rock and roll like crazy compared to our city on the sea. Fair winds and following seas!!

Re: Hiooo from an Aircraft Carrier!

Thank you all for your posts, I'm a little new at this forum thing but I'll get the hang of it! To answer some of your questions, I'm stationed on the USS CARL VINSON with an F/A-18 squadron VFA-25. I've been to Thailand, South Korea, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, Philippines and Kuala Lumpur just to name a few. I hope to make some friends and the most of all your advice, comments and fun humour !

I can't post often since our internet is at best shotty out here but I'll certainly keep in touch and add this to my list of favorite sites right next to sailboatlistings.com
Fair winds and following seas to all of you!!!
