Hi there - we're new!
This is our first post and I'm not sure if I'm following the correct protocols but here goes... We are planning to leave on a circumnavigation in April 08 and I have some questions about equipment. Firstly, what are some of your thoughts on Liferafts - hard case or softpack? Any recommendations on brand/type?
Another question I have has to do with SSB, I'd appreciate any comments relating to ham or not to ham! Thanks, looking forward to your reponses, TnT |

On the liferaft issue, you will get lots of input. Checkout the safety gear section for threads that address that.
My opinion, get your ham license. It will open up lots of options. Even if you do not enjoy talking on the radio, having the license is worthwhile. Check out the communications section. And, welcome aboard.

Thanks!
I appreciated your input. There's a great link in one of the posts I read http://ssca.org/sscabb/index.php lots of good info on SSB etc.
I couldn't find much on Liferafts but I'll keep searching. Thanks again, TnT |

Hi Tianti and Welcome. If you scroll down to the "Gear" section, you will see two headings. One is for "safety equipment" and the other for instruments and communication. If you would be so obligying to post your two question respectively under each heading, hopefully you will get some good replies and we keep the subjects in the correct areas.
I hope you will include NZ on your travel and make sure you look me up when you get here. Just give me a little notice so as I can put the kettle on and a cold one in the fridge.
