Hi There, thanks God this forum DOES exist!

Hi, I'm starting to learn about sailing. Actually, I took a sailing course in 2012 and am planning to buy a boat in the following months to start the real learning.

My wife and I have a dream. To retire -some day, not too far- and live in our boat cruising the seas. May be a crazy dream, for a couple in their fifties that never sailed before, but that's life!

When I found this forum I felt it like a place to learn and share with people like me, who love boats and sea, but have also a great amount of experience for me to take advantage. And perhaps, some day, I could help others as well.

I'm sorry about my English, but it's not my mother tongue. As you recommend in your welcome words, I'll do my best!

Nice to meet you all!

Welcome aboard :-). My mom didn't start sailing till she was in her 40s. She and my dad then sailed round the world. You can do it. Have fun, your adventure has already begun

Welcome Salgari,

This is a great forum and a great place to learn more about sailing, boats, fixing boat and everything related.

Y no se preocupe. Escribe buen el ingles. Es cierto que escribo mal español.

Salgari,

Welcome aboard!
Your written english is excellent and we would have never known if you hadn't stated otherwise.

The best to you on your plans. Stay safe and dry.

Re: Hi There, thanks God this forum DOES exist!

Salgari -- welcome to the forum from someone who did what you are thinking of doing at about the same age when we started
but first - guatemala is one of our favorite countries -- we were there for 6-8 weeks and simply loved it - we sailed into the rio dulce then traveled by chicken bus and mini vans all over your beautiful country - from the south to the north and across the north to almost the pacific then back to the rio -- the people were great and the country was beautiful
now for sailing
we had never been on a any boat until we were about 55 y/o (year 2000) when we took a sailing lesson - liked it so much we took 2 more and had an instructor that made us work as a team and it did work -- bought our 1st and only boat - a new Jeanneau ds40 in 2003 and the reason for new is i grew on a farm and can fix things but fixing a boat is different and i did not know how if a had to do a major rebuild or a lot of work - when i turned 60 i lost my job and spent the next couple of years getting rid of everything and at age 62 took off - we did the bahamas a couple of times and up and down the east coast of the usa to get out of the way of hurricanes then we decided to try and get to the bay islands of honduras - we made it and met some south african folks coming out of the rio dulce and they said hey come to panama with us - so we said sure and then on down to colombia - we sailed across to jamaica then down islands to trinidad and back up to antigua and last may sailed across the atlantic to the med where we are now
you are not to late but you really need to make sure that this is a team effort

any questions please let us know
