Hi my name is Nate, and I live in Virginia

Hi All,

My name is Nate. I live in Virginia. I use to commercial fish up in Alaska, and ever since have been in love with the ocean, well warm ocean only.

I am in the process of getting started on a dinghy to learn the wind and taking some sailing courses.

Anyone here in VA that I can link up with to learn, please shoot me an email?

Re: Hi my name is Nate, and I live in Virginia

Nate I used to live in Norther VA and have these options for you. Your choice depends on how far you want to drive and what your goals (racing, social sailing) are. Enjoy

1. Norton's in Deltaville has a sailing school and maybe some Wednesday racing in the area to improve your sailing skills.

2. Dalgren has a racing fleet maybe on Wednesdays.

3. Washington Sailing Marina which includes the Sailing Club of Washington (SCOW). SCOW is very active in the summer with weekly social and sailing events.

There maybe other places nearby like Kinsale that may have racing as well.

Re: Hi my name is Nate, and I live in Virginia

I will most likely join a sailing club even if I live far. I feel the ASA courses are too pricey. I have always learned from books anyway or I will buy a dinghy and play around. I don't have couple of grand $$$ to throw away anyway.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Some clubs offer sail training free or at a very reduced rate. "Start Sailing Right!" is a great book and shouldn't be too costly. Libraries have tons of basic sailing books. Your in a state that offers plenty of sailing opportunities and it has bunches of marinas.
