hi, I'm researching a documentary

Hello- I'm working on a documentary based on a Canadian book called "Acquainted with The Night" by poet Christopher Dewdney. The film will explore our relationship with the night and will be broken down into 12 storylines (each one about a different hour of the night- based on a 12 hour night).

We'd like to do a storyline on blue water sailing- exploring what it's like to be on the water at night, getting up at 2am to do a watch, looking at the stars, maybe even using them to navigate, finding out how it feels to be out in big water with no shore in sight, blanketed in darkness.

I'm looking for people who might be interested in participating, or in sharing any stories or experiences on blue water sailing at night. I'm at meld_la@hotmail.com

We're flexible with regards to location and will most likely have a window to film beginning in October through the spring of 2009. The film will air on CBC television (Canada's national broadcaster) and will be something that could air on PBS in the US, if that helps.

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post and would love suggestions on that as well.

Thanks very much!

Good luck with your project…… to share the feeling of a night watch at sea….

Mid ocean, far away from any air pollution and on a moonless night… the rotating stars of your unbroken horizon reaches out to touch the phosphorescent sea life that sparkles and reflects the starlight around your small ship to merge as one.

The boat's motion feels like you are falling thru a galactic wormhole of infinite depth and inspires you with thoughts of creation and loneliness…

I shoot Stars with a silver spoon…I go crazy on a full moon,
But baby, I got no tracks, no monkey on my back….just you!

p.s. Leonard Cohen’s music also works great!
