Hi from Washington State

We're superannuated sailors taking a heart surgery break in the rainy Northwest before returning to New Zealand to prepare our boat "Fugue" to leave that beautiful country for the tropics. The passage down was rough but not dangerous-three days at Minerva Reef seemed like paradise! We left California in 2006 and trucked the boat to Seattle, where she was fitted out. We sailed up the coast to northern BC and then (after some more fitting out and a complete reworking of the sail inventory) sailed back to Ventura, CA. After a year recovering from the first round of heart stuff we sailed down the coast to Panama, then to the Marquesas via the Galapagos. After a stop in Tahiti, we went to Tonga, and the to NZ. Hopefully Fiji and New Caledonia are next, while we decide whether we can brave the southern Indian Ocean. We've gotten along so far with just the two of us, but it looks as though we'll need crew for the trip north. We'll see.

Sounds like you have had a wonderful six years. Good luck with the next stage. Even if you don't decide to "brave" the Indian Ocean, you are in a wonderful playground at the moment. Eventually when we can drag ourselves out of the Med we hope to spend winters in Fiji/Tonga and summers in NZ.

Sure-Terry Cady at Yachtfitters on Lake Union at Seacraft Yacht Sales in Seattle. He did a fabulous job with some tricky installations (Fugue is a double ender without a lot of room in the cockpit lazarettes or at the hull/deck joint under the gunwales). I'd recommend Terry for any sort of rigging, outfitting, mechanical, plumbing, or electrical installation, and pretty much anything else. We had our (brand new) sails beefed up for blue water cruising by Port Townsend Sails-again, highest recommendations. Pat Sharpe in Port Hadlock built a new spice cabinet under the overhead locker in the galley and matched the existing woodwork perfectly. He also built a cabinet with shelves behind the mirror in the quarter berth-again, beautifully done. Pat is an artist in wood.
