Hi from Vancouver

Hi everybody.
I am from Czech Republic and I am living, working in Vancover.
I have recently finished sail courses I,II and III and I started to love sea.
I want to be part of crew on ship so I can get out on sea more often.

If some of you is looking for crew, let me know.

Martin

Re: Hi from Vancouver

Yes, hello Martin and welcome aboard the forum. We have a number of members from the Vancouver area and some might be able to help you if you started a thread listing yourself as available to crew in that area. If not, have you considered joining a yacht club? Memebers are often looking for crew on race nights.

Good luck and enjoy!

Welcome, Also check your local craiglist adds. I have seen crew wanted postings from time to time there, you may even post an add.

Re: Hi from Vancouver

In Vancouver best bet is to go down to the Yacht club by the Burrard St. bridge and find out what day race day is (usually Sundays at most clubs). Linger around before they do the race meeting and offer up yourself as extra crew. Might take a few tries before you get aboard, but once you get aboard once, if you're allright, when you hit the after-race drinks with the rest of the racers you'll find you can get aboard quite easily most weeks.

Having good English will really help, I find that most of the people I meet from that Yacht club are multi-generation Canadian native English speakers - and since being crew requires good communication if your English is choppy it may be more difficult to get aboard that first time.

Re: Hi from Vancouver

Martin. You may want to check out the Jibset sailing club down on Granville Island. Inexpensive way to get started and they hold lots of learning sessions and races.
