Hi from the US west coast!

My name is Alex. Born in the Caribbean, BWI. I'm quitting my job in a couple years, selling everything, and leaving to sail the world in 3 years time. Maybe in 20-30 years I'll make it all the way around and back to the Caribbean

I'm currently looking at the following sail boats for the journey:

Ericson 41/46
Kelly-Peterson 44
Westsail 42/43
Rival 38
Formosa 46
Cape Dory 40
Nicholson 43

Plus a few others. Of course I'm favoring the Ericson and the K-P.

...and no I didn't decide one Tuesday after breakfast to do this. I've been wanting to for several years.

(the post title doesn't say much to what you are posting, if you are more specific you migt get better responses)
I'm guessing you wanted some comments on the boats you listed. You might want to include some additional info so that you get better feedback, like the number of people, the budget, the skill level as to DIY, etc.

I've always liked the KP44's. watch the old tanks.

Thanks! Not really looking for feedback in this post, I am going to be making dozens others along the way asking specific questions I'm sure. I was just giving people the basic idea of what I'll be doing and the types of sail boats I'm interested in for the journey

Re: Hi from the US west coast!

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Although I own a 42 I wouldn't ever buy anything bigger than a 36 after years of sailing and maintaining boats.
The only one you listed that I've been aboard was the KP. Seemed like good quality.
kind regards,

Re: Hi from the US west coast!

Not sure if you're already aware of this or not, but the Kelly Petterson 44 and the Formosa 46 are the same boat. The Formosa is also known as a Cheaterson, because the yard that built it "borrowed" the plans from the KP 44 and never paid any royalties to the designer. Both great boats though. I'm currently in the process of buying a Formosa 46. You could do far worse. What's your budget look like?
