Hi from Saskatchewan

Hello all just like to introduce myself and share my plan, my name is chris and my wife julie (seagirl111) , we currently live in Saskatchewan Canada but we are English. I've been browsing and dreaming on here for numerous years but have finally talked my wife into hopefully taking the plunge into our new endeavor, we have two daughters Natasha (25) who's left home and Mckenna (8), a cat named Vito and a super soft pitbull named Roxi.
Our plan is to sell the house we are now in and move to British Columbia and buy a sailboat in the 40ft range which we will live on for the next year or so until we have done our sailing courses and had some experience in and around the PNW, our next stage will be to decide when we will head south for a few years and the route we will take, I know it's a hard place to set off from but we want to move aboard right away and BC is really the only place in Canada where we can do this. Looking forward to asking lots of questions and picking your brains . Our house will be on the market in the next few days so we feel a little excited/scared already. Anyway I will stop now or I'll be rambling on all day.

Hi Chris [and Julie, et. al]

Welcome to the Cruiser's Ward, er, forum...

It sound like you have guys have your plans and goals in sync. Congrats. That is the big first- and most important- step...

Choosing homelessness is scary... but I'm sure your impending floating abode will more than make up for it... It did for us, and many more here in the ward...

Best wishes with your new adventure. We look forward to watching your progress.

Cheers!

Bill

Re: Hi from Saskatchewan

Hi Chris, welcome to CF. My partner made the leap last year, and have been without a land home for just coming up to one year now. We sold our shack in Thunder Bay, and have now sailed our boat down to Lake Ontario with plans to head out the St. Lawrence. After that, who knows? Ultimately I'd like to end up on the BC coast, but at our pace we might make it in about 15 years .

Getting rid of house and stuff was difficult, but it's great to be so unencumbered. What has worked for us is to go together and to go slowly. There's no rush.

Hello Chris, Julie, kids, cat and dog...Welcome to the cruising adventure. I hope your home sells quickly and profitable and that you can begin your life afloat soon. My wife and I moved aboard almost three years ago and love it. I hope you will too.

Re: Hi from Saskatchewan

Congrats on the decision.

We did the something similar (bought a boat in BC, moved from Colorado to BC, got experience, took off) and we are now back in Saskatchewan!

Re: Hi from Saskatchewan

Enjoy the PNW. I've sailed in the Straight of Georgia, but now split my time in Alberta and the Tampa Bay area, 6 months apiece. My boat of coarse is in Florida also.

Re: Hi from Saskatchewan

Welcome to the forum and a new life. We found an old boat in Pender Harbour BC 2 years ago moved out to the west coast and aboard and have been living aboard and fixing it up for the past year. We hope to "unplug " within the next two months.

As others have said, take your time. Get to know your boat, the lifestyle and each other. It's an amazing experience that you both can savor. Good luck!

Re: Hi from Saskatchewan

Thanks prairie chicken, I think we might need a few packs of seasick pills for us all but I'm sure we'll get over it. The house went on the market this morning and we have approx 7 viewers already over the next day or two, it's quite scary when things start moving forward.
