Hi from Kalgoorlie / Australia

Hi all, from all places Kalgoorlie in the Western Australia Goldfields. My wife and I have made the jump and purchased a yacht to live on and cruise the coast of Aus. Gallivant is a Farr 36 which may not suit some as a cruiser but coming in from a bit of a racing back ground she will be lively . We will await the sale of our Kalgoorlie home them move aboard. Lots of sea trails before sailing of round Aus hopefully in June. This board has some great info which will no doubt become a very useful resource.

Hi James,
One will attempt to master the how to post more that one photo and text in one reply. These photos where taken a Freo Sailing Club. We will be running her down to Mandurah next week. The stainless work will be done there and our power system solar and wind turbine fitted. The art of throwing money in the water has started.

Thanks Marc..
Sounds like you are mastering the "art".
So whats the plan with the stainless ....are you going to me mounting the stuff on a biminy...or is it an arch you'll be building?

James it will be a mix of Arch and bimini as the panels are the right size for the bimini but the wind turbine is a Ampair Pacific 300 which has a 600mm radius this requires a more solid mount. Will let the welder give us some ideas.

Hi all, Gallivant update.
My better half and I moved our new purchase to Mandurah with little hassle from Fremantle the photo shows a couple of changes we have made before the move.

Awaiting the quote for the bimini and solar panel rack this may leave the wallet awhole lot lighter.

Will keep you up dated.

G'Day Marc,
Good to welcome you to the site.
Your shot of the 36 took me back and it's berth in Freo was close by where we once kept one of our boats!
Looks like Mandurah has developed since we last visited (circa 1996) and I've no doubt you'll enjoy the boat.
Re the comment on cruiser / racer - I knew Ted Matthews quite well years back - he built most of the 36's for the Australias Cup - and whilst he wanted them seen as racers in truth Farr designed them with cruising in mind.
So enjoy - and maybe see you sailing further afield later on..........

Swagman,
Thanks for the the reply I think some of the cruising crowd would not see the undersides as a good cruiser.

The quote come through for the stainless steel work, still in my chair but will have to wait a month for a start ( all good things come those who wait).

Will add photos when the next updates happen.

Hi Marc,

May well see you when we sail down to Mandurah from FSC! And yes, doesn't the money just melt away when you start modifying the rig to suit your needs.

Good luck and have fun. See you in the water!
