Hi from Georgia

Just joined the forum after a few days poking around. I don't even have a boat yet, still have a couple teenagers to get rid of before I can take off, but I have enjoyed reading the info and I am sure I will be asking for more when time gets closer. I hope to get a boat a couple years before I plan to live aboard. Will probably dock it in the Destin area (we spend a lot of time there anyway). I never really even considered ever really retiring until recently when my 4th shoulder surgery taught me a few things (patience being one). I have busted my butt for a long time (self employed) and finally decided I CAN leave it one day. I am looking forward to meeting some of you even before I get sailing.

Re: Hi from Georgia

I did my first retirement at 47 years old to do our circumnavigation. I wish I had done it even sooner. Then maybe I could have gotten two circumnavigations done.

I have not had any shoulder surgeries, but I see lots of people with health problems for whom crusing is a very distant option. My recommendation is to go as young as you can, just to be sure that you get the chance to live your dream. I think it's more fun to go at a younger age when it's easier to handle the physical side of sailing.

Hi back from Florida

Hey Bulldawg,

Welcome to the forum. If you have a couple of teenagers to get rid of we've got a nice college down here in Gainesville FL where you could send them.

I am 45 now and the shoulder should get better, although will still be limited, and otherwise I'm in great shape. No circumnavigation for me just some island hopping, staying warm and relaxing.

Good school but not sure either of them could wear orange without breaking out in hives.

Funny, that's what my daddy told me but I didn't listen. He's just down the road from you in Fortson. Usually wears red and black himself but I don't hold it against him.

If you try being a bit meaner to them they might take off sooner...
