Hi from Columbus Ohio

Hi All,

I've been a passive member for several months - I have sailed a Hobie 16 since 1980 and I am now interested in slowing transitioning to a larger boat. I plan to still sail the Hobie since it's so much fun, but I may want to cruise the Caribbean some day.

I've learned much from reading posts on this forum, thanks for participating!

Welcome Ron,

I sail a c-26 at Alum Creek just a bit north of Columbus. Plans to sail on lake Erie in the next month.

There are a lot of boats around looking for new owners.

I sail regularly at Alum Creek.
I try to spend some time on lake Erie each summer - still on my Hobie. I looked at some 36 footers in Sandusky a month ago. Pretty cool.

When you sail Lake Erie where do you launch out of? I am still researching that. I am looking for a place that has a parking lot big enough to step my mast and get launch with out so much traffic

Any ideas?

Please check my ideas with someone else before you commit, because my ramp needs are probably different than yours. That being said, I think that most marinas and state parks will do fine. I have launched at East Harbor, Maumee Bay, and at places on Catawba Island (Not an island at all). At East Harbor, you will need to motor (in my case, paddle) through a channel to get to the lake. Actually, at Maumee bay, we launched over the beach, but I think there is a ramp to the west a few miles.

There are probably many more, but I have only been to these.

Aloha Bix,
Welcome aboard! It appears you've already found a local sailor.
Kind regards,

Thanks John,
Maybe I'll sail your way some day. I'll say "hi" in person!
