Hi from Colorado

I'm a displace Mainer living in the Colorado mountains and dreaming of being closer to the ocean- hopefully in the next 2-4 years. I grew up sailing in Penobscot Bay, and a recent charter in BVI relit the fire. I've been lurking for a while, but I'll probably have questions about cruising in certain areas, boats, etc., and maybe even something to contribute, so I figured I'd register. Anyway, Hi, and thanks for putting on such a great source of information and knowledge.

We live on the Western Slope and have our boat in Alameda. Many sailors are from Colorado it seems. Welcome!

Another one here, we split our time between Gunnison, Aspen and the Caribbean. Just found out that CBCat is from up the road in Crested Butte.

If only Colorado had an ocean....

I do have a Holder Hawk 9 that I take out on Blue Mesa but I usually have a dry suit on, a little different from the Carib.

Welcome aboard. Maybe a few quick trips up to Lake Dillon's could tide you over another year or two. With Southwest airlines coming to Colorado, you can now get to a half dozen West coast sailing centers pretty cheap out of Denver.

I'm in Steamboat, so a ways from Blue Mesa- I have sailed on Lake Dillon, which definitely keeps you on your toes. Good to see a bunch of western slope folks getting out on sailboats and thanks for the welcome.

Hey TD,

We just traded our condo that was in Vail for a cat and are now living aboard in Texas. We're getting ready to cruise south to Brazil, hopefully we'll be ready by December.

We lived in Vail/Avon for 10 years before we decided it was island time.. Love it up there, but the older we got, the colder the winters became. So, here we are, livin cheap and crusin' the Caribbean. You can do it!

Yes, there are quite a few people with Colorado connections here. But there are plenty of very friendly folks from all over the world on this site. It's a pretty laid-back, carefree crowd - just the sort of people drawn to cruising in the first place.

Take your time to get to know the site, but don't hesitate to post if there's something you want to know - or something you want others to know. Glad to see other landlocked Colorado folks here. We are from Mesa, sailed on Lake Dillon a couple weeks ago with Captain Dan just to see what it was like. You're not kidding about keeping you on your toes up there. Headed to Florida or Texas next spring for ASA lessons.
