Hi from australia

Hi all,

Matthew Chisholm is my name. Living on the gold coast, enjoying a gap year after 5 years in china working too hard. Looking forward to buying a nice blue water cruiser in the us and sailing backt to Australia. Need bit of time on the water before such a trip so very keen to do some ocean passages this year from June onwards.

Interested in hearing about Catalina 38 common upgrades for longer offshore routes. Lots to learn.

Cheers

First upgrade for a Catalina 38 for offshore is a distance from shore restriction device, this device keeps the vessel within sight of land at all times...

Otherwise I can direct you to this thread...

Arrogant and Downright Mean

Just takin the piss, welcome to the forum. Have any questions more specific?

Hey thx man, good see see a diverse community out there.
Nice. Not the response i was expecting. My post was more of a general intro blurb than a venue for specifics but hey thanks for the welcome and the feedback!
I do have many questions and will get into those in the various forums. Looks like a great resource tho, links to nasty stories abt arrogant bastards aside.

If u do know anyone in oz or on the west coast of the US after crew with a bit of offshore and racing experience give me a hoy!

Best thing to remember is that most posters here are in the states or Europe and your post can get lost a bit if you don't time it right so don't lose heart, sometimes just repost. Gordmay should be along soon to "officially" welcome you

Welcome to the shark cage mate!

Re: Hi from australia

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Mathew.

I would generally characterise most reparations for offshore voyaging as “repairs & refurbishment”, rather than upgrades.
All critical structures & systems must be thoroughly checked out, and serviced, overhauled, or replaced as needed.
You might have to add a lengthy, all-chain anchor rode.

Re: Hi from australia

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you here. As you can see folks are treading lightly on your question about the Catalina 38. I think Gord gave a great answer.
I've always liked Catalinas up to the 30 range but haven't any experience with the larger versions.
kind regards,.
