Hi...from Asheville, NC!

Hi everyone...and um...no we are not sailing in Asheville Doug and I are beginning the process of looking for a liveaboard, and this forum is amazing! We won't be able to move to who-knows-where-but-hopefully-warm until 2012, but it is never too early to begin researching right? We have about 3 years of limited experience sailing a daysailer in the Southport, NC area on the weekends. What fun that is, but there are not a lot of destinations from which to gain experience. Hopefully that will change when we can purchse our own home and start sailing more. Until then, we are looking forward to learning from all of you!

Hi Tina, welcome to the board. I am sure you will learn a lot from these folks, I know I certainly have.

My wife and I also live in Asheville and I certainly agree there is not much sailing here at all. Have you been to Lake Julian? I was able to do some sailing there, but it's more of a puddle than anything else. We have a Cal 34 in Washington, NC that we are preparing for a cruise down to Florida.

We are always looking for sailors to talk with, give us a PM some time and maybe we can chat about far away islands!

Hi Tina....my wife and I recently signed a one year lease at a very nice marina in New Bern, NC. We live aboard about one third of the time. For us, the Neuse river and Pamlico Sound offer a playground to develop our sailing skills before hitting blue water. We have also found the town of New Bern to be a delightful and interesting place to eat and explore the many quaint shops and sites.

Yo Tina,
Welcome to the site.. don't worry about only daysailing, you've learnt the important things about boats, watch your head on a gybe.. you get wet when you fall in, and, I'm sure you've mastered the question I've been asked a few times.... "How do you know where the winds coming from"
Great brains and wit here... with one exception...
ME

I'm sure you'll enjoy the Nuese and Pamlico Sound... nice sailing grounds

Aloha and welcome aboard
I got to tour the New Bern area a few years ago and it really looked like a great place for boaters.
Good luck in your pursuit.
regards,
